Mark 91;14-29
- Jesus healed a demon-possessed boy
- The boy has been possessed for a long-time. Yet, Jesus was able to drive the demon away. (Of course!)
- The disciples themselves couldn't do it. Why? Maybe they were afraid? The demon was a little bit strong and has been attached to the boy for so long? The disciples' faith was not strong enough? (Jesus did say that too before) There might've been many factors but one thing was specified, that only prayer can force out that kind of demon.
- Prayer had the power to force out a long-time demon hence, prayer can also force out our long-time sins!
- The boy's father had faith but he wanted more faith. We too, should increase our faith. But how? For me, I suppose constant prayer, reading of the word and meditating may help. Like the father, let's ask Jesus for more faith.
- Someone literally possessed is not common in contemporary times but all have" inner demons." This could be sinful habits we can't let go, our heart's desire which are evil, etc. These things, even things that aren't necessarily bad, can cause us to be distracted or even drift away from God's will, ways and path for us. We should be careful.
-The disciples couldn't drive out the demon from the boy. The good thing here is that, they were growing Christians. They were working in progress! They weren't fully perfected yet but they continued to work for God regardless. I should too! Discouragement from failure is work of the enemy. Drive him out!
